of the official opening of our new clubhouse
Cost
The original estimated cost was £900,000, but due to the fact
that the National Lottery withdrew their support, despite encouraging
us initially, the Club has had to reduce its plans and budget accordingly.
The
Multi Use Games Area is now a Phase II project.
The
floor plans have been reduced a little, although we believe it will
still provide a quality two-storey building that we can all be proud
of. We still hope that we shall be able to build floodlights shortly
afterwards, although this will depend on finance.
Progress
The Club has taken the calculated risk to commence the building
work despite the fact that we do not have sufficient monies, because
otherwise we shall lose some of our grants, which are time-limited.
As
can be seen from the above photographs, the steel framework is up,
and we are about to start bricking. We have received substantial
funding from the Rugby Union, Chelmsford Jubilee Fund, Shepherd
Neame, the Foundation for Sports and Arts, and Entrust. In addition,
over the last 5 years, the Club itself has raised some £170,000
through various pledges, donations and fundraising events. However,
we still require some £60/£80,000 in order to complete
the project.
It
would be a great pity if we are not able to complete the building
because of this relatively small shortfall.
Pledges
We are therefore still looking for substantial pledges, or brick
purchases which can be bought for as little as £50/£100.00.
It is NOW that the Club really needs the assistance of the members.
We
need one final push in order to complete the building works on the
new Clubhouse, which will be a TREMENDOUS ASSET for us all for many
years to come and for both Minis, Youths, Ladies and Senior Members,
as well as Vice Presidents and Social Members and all our network
partners, e g Springfield Striders.
Events
We continue to hold fundraising events, the latest being the Auction
of Promises evening in September. Despite a poor turnout this still
raised some £10/£11,000.
John
Wade continues to run Golf Days.
