Sunday
November 15th 2009 versus Westcliff
A
pleasing performance on the whole this week against Westcliff's
two squads. Both Chelmsford teams started extremely well and dominated
early although the Whites allowed Westcliff to come back in both
matches. On aggregate Chelmsford won 85-35 (17 tries to 7)!
The
Blues played their first match against the slightly weaker Westcliff
team and their strength showed straight form the off. There was
never any doubt that Chelmsford had the upper hand, the pack scrummaged
well and secured the ball for the backs to shine and score. 20-0
to the Blues at half time and more of the same in the second half,
CRFC did well to keep a clean slate as Westcliff just knocked the
ball on over the try line. There were some great individual moments
in the game as well as fantastic support play; Josh C put up a great
kick that lead to one of our tries, Charlie sprinted after every
loose ball securing a great try, Jack Sylvester was always there
in support providing the last link in one of the tries and Josh
W steam rollered anyone in his path to the try line! Jack Smith
was solid as prop, the front row out powered their counterparts
and Sam T displayed his usual fearless tackling ability. The game
finished 35-0 to the Chelmsford Blues with tries scored by: Josh
W (3), Charlie (2), Sam T and Jack S.
The
Blues up against the stronger opposition soon started to boss the
match. Their defence was strong and the pack, fly-half and centres
consistently turned over ball for the backs then offered support
driving them towards the try line, great linking play in the first
half from Tom P that resulted in his first try in a Chelmsford shirt.
The half time score was 15-0 but Westcliff came out fighting in
the second half and The Blues gave a way a couple of soft tries
before they regained their composure with a sneaky interception
that lead to Rory's try. Ollie looked strong on the wing breaking
through several times. At one point the Blues even thought Richard
was their 14th player (he dropped the pass though!) Mental note
- must buy Richard a 'pink' ref's shirt! Final score 25-10. Try
scorers were: Josh W (3), Tom P, Rory.
The
Whites had tougher matches against the opposition, they started
well in both matches but unfortunately could not maintain the momentum.
Taking a 10 nil lead in the first match against the tougher opposition,
the Whites then had a period of losing too much ball at the rucks
and mauls that let Westcliff back into the game to steal a victory
15-10 in a match that seem to last forever! Try scorers were Scott
and Jacob.
The
second match again started well for the Whites, there was some direct
running from the Chelmsford lads and a particularly notable performance
by Sam A that led to lots of ground being made. Westcliff never
gave up though and the final score finished 10-10.
Man
of the match trophies this week went to Sam Alderton for the Whites
and Josh Wright for the Blues.
Thanks
to all the lads that happily played some of the game for Westcliff
due to their shortage of players and injuries.
Sunday 1st November 2009 versus Maldon (Rhinos) and Upminster
(Warriors)
Well
played everyone in what was difficult weather conditions yesterday,
I know you were all soaked through after both oppositions were late
arriving! The good news is the weather isn't often worse than that!
A very pleasing result for the Rhinos against Maldon that finished
15-5 in Chelmsford's favour with Scott scoring twice and Josh W
once. My man of the match yesterday was Scott although there were
some notable performances from Harry A and Steffan who stepped in
to play Hooker when we unfortunately lost Tom to injury and some
great tackling from Rory, Sam T and Josh. Well done also to Tom
P and George who filled in when we lost two players to the cold
weather. The whole team were solid in their defence and really nailed
the game home in the last 15 minutes.
The Warriors up against a strong Upminster B side performed well
at the set pieces but struggled at the rucks and missed too many
first time tackles (an area to concentrate on for next week!). There
was good spirit thoughout the game and they kept this going to the
final whistle with Bradley scoring the last try. Man of the match
was Anthony. Tenacious, fearless performance throughout. With a
little more work in training on the rucks and the tackling, victory
will be just around the corner.
Sunday 25th October 2009 versus Welwyn Garden City
A
great performance yesterday from the Warriors who narrowly lost
(15-10) but played some of the best rugby of the morning! Lads your
progress is really starting to show the more matches you play. An
outstanding performance too from James Russell who was our 'Man
of the Match' for the Warriors. Lets build on this - home match
versus Upminster B this weekend and possibly a mixed Rhino/Warrior
match v Maldon.
The Rhinos had a good win (10-0) but the performance was below par
for them, whilst Welwyn never really threatened the score line,
the Rhinos should have won this game by a much larger margin. Perhaps
they were saving themselves for next weeks game against Maldon?
Thanks to Sam W for stepping up and joining the pack when Alex went
off with a shoulder injury and Josh G who had a solid game as fly-half.
The Rhinos 'Man of the Match' yesterday though was Josh Wright.
Chelmsford U12s (Rhinos) Triple Champions
For the third successive year, the Chelmsford U12s (Rhinos) team
have been crowned Cup Champions at the Upminster Mini Rugby Festival.
In the pool stages, they faced tough opposition and were slow to
find their form. Their first pool match versus Hertford was stop
start all the way and the Rhinos were never able to get into their
flowing game style, the match finished 5-5. Stanford Le Hope were
our next opponents and the Rhinos were hungry for success. They
were physical and in control for most of the game. A superb performance
all round saw the Rhinos secure a 20-0 win. Old Judonians really
tested the power and ability of the Rhinos and although the Rhinos
took an early lead the Tunbridge side fought back to level the score,
5-5. The final pool game against Southend was dealt with swiftly
and the Rhionos secured a 30-0 victory. Topping their pool on the
basis of number of tries scored, the Rhinos went through to the
cup final where they meet their familiar rivals Upminster on home
territory. As always a good contest between the two teams but Chelmsford
Rhinos took the early lead and secured it towards the end of the
first half, the game finished 10-0 and once again the Chelmsford
U12s team successfully defended their title.
Congratulations to the whole squad: Alfie Keogh,Tom Ritchie, James
Barker, Scott Griffen, Joe Beal, Sam Trowell, Sam Alderton, Chay
Pollinger, Josh Wright, Jacob Jochim, Charlie Nice, Jack Sylvester,
James Lynch, Rory Lyons, Josh Coburn, Harry Ames, Harry Pilcher
and Alex Kembel
